Depersonal Project
This project is about loneliness and the depersonalization of reality and spaces.
Depersonalization is defined as a persistent or recurring feeling of being detached from one's body or mental processes, like an outside observer
of one's life, and/or a feeling of being detached from one's surroundings. I have definitely struggled with this weird mental state; having felt
extremely distant from my close relationships, my actions, and my surroundings. It’s as if you are sleepwalking through life and nothing feels quite
real. To portray this feeling, I chose to focus my subject matter on places that don’t seem real either. These objects and areas are missing the
context of their purpose or history, that are on the outskirts of daily life and daily use. These places seem distant from societal interaction which
gives them a sense of uncanniness and an unearthly feel. They are fleeting moments in time and space. I want the viewers to become the
sleepwalking observers through these spaces.
